The Americans are building a temporary
launch pad for a nuclear missile and they
also have a new secret weapon in the same
area. Rumors have it that this weapon capable
of destroying a small house. The following
has been leaked out by a senior white house
official: For this weapon to work, it must
be placed in the center of a small house by a
team of 88 professionals in radiation suits
and must wear aluminum shoes. Weapon must be
transported to the location by a dog sled -
snowy location is prefered. It works like this:
When placed in house and uncovered, it reacts
with the fridge to cause an electrical fire,
thus destroying the house. Note: Does not
work every time.
Counter-Terrorists: Prevent Terrorists
from bombing the nuclear missile and the secret
weapon. Team members must defuse any
bombs that threaten targeted areas.

Background: Dunny is hosting the third
annual Violence In Cinema Film Festival
this weekend at his ski resort in Utah's
La Sal mountains. Dunny plans to show
his new movie, Premature Enlightenment,
to the violent film lovers and press
people who will be attending. This
sequel to the 1999 hit movie Fight Club
is rumored to contain more volatile
subject matter than even the original
film, (i.e. a man's struggle with his
religious identity and ultimate founding
of a doomsday cult in the Ozarks) and as
such has drawn more critics than any film
in history. Executives at Fox 2000
Pictures, after reading through Chuck
Palahniuk's book, and Dunny's own
screenplay were quoted as saying "We won't
touch this one with a ten meter cattle prod.
Nosir. No way." Dunny, who started the
film festival after watching Fight Club for
the first time, then decided to start his
own film production company and make the
movie himself. About the time that
post-production was finishing up, the first
threat came from a group calling themselves
God's Militia. They demanded a halt to the
production of the film, adding that they had
heard about it on Rush Limbaugh, who was not
amused, and that they were the voice of Rush
(and God) on earth. Director David Fincher,
after reading the letter, was quoted as
chuckling quietly and saying "Isn't Rush
Limbaugh the voice of Rush Limbaugh on earth?"
The threats have continued steadily since then.
The last promised death to everyone who attends
the screening of Premature Enlightenment at the
film festival.
Dunny's Security Thugs: Defend the mountain-top
resort, and the movie screening. Dunny is
counting on you.
God's Militia: The Lord comandeth you to smite
the wicked hate-mongers at this so-called "Film
Festival" in a big way. Useth the Lord's C4 to

Scenario: A terrorist group called "Greenpiece" has decieded to sink an
old container ship by blowing it into pieces. This ship (the
"MS DUMPSTAR") is currentliy dumping waste in the atlantic.
"GREENPIECE" has raided the vessel and killed every crew member.
Now, they are going to place the charges in order to tear the
hull appart.
Terrorists: Place the bomb and sink that ship!
Counter-terrorists: Kill all of the so called
"Greenpiece-activists"! In addition to that
you must defuse any bomb that threaten targeted
areas!

Anyways deciding on a map author is a non-trivial task. There are also cases where someone who doesn't know how to map drafts a "floor plan" of the map on a piece of paper and someone who can map implements it. So creativity comes from one person and implementation from someone else

One single input field is not enough to convey all this info, but readme and proper tags searching mechanisms help. I like to see all maps that have Sock's egyptian textures regardless of who author is because those textures look really good as an example

@FIXXOR: So in case a decompile is done and only the needed functions/entities are changed to make it work in the destination game/module/... as ParaBolt just described, you would still agree to give authorship to the person who recompiled it? As this is, as you said, the one who compiles it.

@qoLmE not clue about the example given of porting from hl to cs, but I'm porting maps from source to goldsrc and the process is: decompile into vmf, open the vmf in jack, convert the source entities into their goldsrc equivalents, convert and reapply the textures, decompile and recompile the models, fix errors caused by the decompiler, optimize, then finally recompile for goldsrc

I like to argue that authorship goes to however compiled the map because each new compile is unique I think, you can get a mismatch if you recompile the same map a second time even without any changes, so the game seemingly recognizes each compilation as distinct

technically you can just edit the maxrange property and not even rename the map since it shouldn't cause a mismatch, so it's a useless edit for any savvy host

basically entity properties are decided by the entity configuration of the host, you can outright remove entities such as doors and breakables this way and play with someone who has the original version of the map, because removal in this context just means they won't load, they are still stored in the map file

in the case of the MaxRange property, this just tells the game at which distance from the player's pov the map should no longer be rendered, in-game it will vanishpast that point

Good you kept the build-in screen message as reference to the "actual" mappers.

I didn't knew about max range being a setting that can be embedded in a bsp-file. Thought this was only server sided with the use of the cvar "sv_zmax".
