de musica comenzaron a tocar marchas de guerra, con el objeto de distraer
la atencion y el oido de los 14 terroristas que conservaban a 72 rehenes
prisioneros en la residencia del embajador japones, en el corazon del
lujoso barrio limeño de San Isidro desde hacia 126 dias
Ese dia 140 comandos entrenados iniciaron lo que seria la mas eficiente
operacion de rescate de rehenes en la historia de las operaciones militares
en honor a esos comandos he diseñado este mapa para recordar su sacrificio...

Mision
Comandos EP FOES: Rescata a los rehenes.
Eliminar a los Terroristas sin arriesgar la vida
de los rehenes. Cuidado con las minas terrestres
diseminadas en el patio trasero
Terroristas MRTA: Evita que la fuerza de comandos
rescate a los rehenes, usa cualquier forma para
detenerlos y bombardea la casa "Unique" de los
comandos desde su sala de operaciones en el
subsuelo.
Nota: Hay 8 rehenes y muchas trampas explosivas
en esta misión Suerte!

Background :
Terrorists have captured an island in the pacific owned by America, they've taken 2 hostages from the island.
The counter-terrorists represent the US troops. The CT's have driven
their boats to the shore of the island. Let the bloodbath begin.
CT objective: Rescue hostages or kill T's
T objective: Prevent the CT's from rescuing the hostages and kill the CT's
Map objects and details:
- There are 2 cameras, one in each of the 2 terrorsist bunkers. These cameras are invisible.
- The access panel for these cameras is at the southern end of the beach (near CT spawn points.)
- The cameras hold position for 6 second then the camera mode is exited.
- The beach slants upwords.
- There are logs along the beach which can provide CT's with cover, however they are breakable.
- T's have machine guns,scouts,HE grenades and kevlar on the tables in the bunkers, but they can still buy.
- Ct's have scouts and smoke grenades ready for them on the boats, but they also can still buy.
- Breakable sandbags surround the bunkers.
- Both bunkers contain ladder which leads to the top, this is a good sniping point for T's.
- T's cannot see the boats from the bunkers as they are to far away.
- There is 1 hostage in each bunker.
- This is a maximum of 8 aside.

When porting to a completely different game engine, you need to decompile map on one engine, edit it as necessary and recompile to other engine. In most cases this is a tedious task, generally a good mapper would just prefer recreating the map in new engine

In case of the term "remodeling", you'd need to ask the author what they mean by that, did they edit the BSP and change architecture?

Anyways deciding on a map author is a non-trivial task. There are also cases where someone who doesn't know how to map drafts a "floor plan" of the map on a piece of paper and someone who can map implements it. So creativity comes from one person and implementation from someone else

One single input field is not enough to convey all this info, but readme and proper tags searching mechanisms help. I like to see all maps that have Sock's egyptian textures regardless of who author is because those textures look really good as an example

@FIXXOR: So in case a decompile is done and only the needed functions/entities are changed to make it work in the destination game/module/... as ParaBolt just described, you would still agree to give authorship to the person who recompiled it? As this is, as you said, the one who compiles it.

@qoLmE not clue about the example given of porting from hl to cs, but I'm porting maps from source to goldsrc and the process is: decompile into vmf, open the vmf in jack, convert the source entities into their goldsrc equivalents, convert and reapply the textures, decompile and recompile the models, fix errors caused by the decompiler, optimize, then finally recompile for goldsrc

I like to argue that authorship goes to however compiled the map because each new compile is unique I think, you can get a mismatch if you recompile the same map a second time even without any changes, so the game seemingly recognizes each compilation as distinct

technically you can just edit the maxrange property and not even rename the map since it shouldn't cause a mismatch, so it's a useless edit for any savvy host

basically entity properties are decided by the entity configuration of the host, you can outright remove entities such as doors and breakables this way and play with someone who has the original version of the map, because removal in this context just means they won't load, they are still stored in the map file

in the case of the MaxRange property, this just tells the game at which distance from the player's pov the map should no longer be rendered, in-game it will vanishpast that point

Good you kept the build-in screen message as reference to the "actual" mappers.

I didn't knew about max range being a setting that can be embedded in a bsp-file. Thought this was only server sided with the use of the cvar "sv_zmax".
